Compensation Benchmarking in India’s Social Sector

A data-driven view of salaries across 175 nonprofit organisations

India’s non-profit and social enterprise sector plays a pivotal role in addressing development challenges across education, health, gender equity, climate action, clean energy, and poverty alleviation. Yet, compensation practices remain uneven, and pay disparities continue to affect talent attraction, retention, and long-term organisational growth.

Arthan’s latest study benchmarks salaries across six SDG-aligned sectors — Poverty, Health, Education, Gender Equality, Clean Energy, and Climate Action — drawing on data from 175 nonprofit organisations. The report captures role-wise salary medians (junior, mid, senior) and further disaggregates findings by funding type and organisation size, offering a clear and grounded view of pay trends in the sector.

The study sheds light on the structural realities shaping compensation in India’s impact ecosystem and aims to support leaders in making informed, equitable decisions.
